And if anything is going to shake the foundations this Autumn, it has to be '68 Guns' by The Alarm (IRS/A&M). Having raved so much about this group that someone suggested calling the mag Alarming!, I'll keep this short: simply, they've waited a long time to release this undouted classic which must now make the impact that 'The Stand' was too weak to achieve. Full credit to producer Alan Shacklock for capturing the boys sound on vinyl, and now just watch as 'Yeaay yeaoh' becomes the refrain of the autumn. The Clash/ U2/ SLF comparisons will rightly be made, but original or not, '68 Guns' will hopefully serve as the shot in the arm the business has long been awaiting.
